If you want to learn a little more about bulimia, then read on.You can learn a great deal about this disturbing eating disorder here. If however you just want to jump right in, go to our discussion forum. Don't be afraid to ask questions, or tell your stories. Many people have difficulty discussing bulimia. In the safety and comfort of the web, you can do so without fear of judgement or embarrasement. Remember, sharing your experience helps others deal with theirs. One method to do so is to tell your story in our discussion forum. This helps others in their struggle and gives you a chance to tell your story anonymously through our discussion board.

You can also find some tools here that will help you overcome bulimia. An example can be found in this film to help you tell your parents. There are also self hypnosis products to help you get past the more difficult challenges of bulimia.

First of all, some things you need to know about bulimia:

  • It is a symptom of a deeper disease. There are other symptoms. These can include addictions, self harm and depression. They sometimes show themselves, and sometimes they lie dormant for years.
  • It may not have a lot to do with weight. The bingeing and purging are simply means of expressing anxiety.
  • It is not your fault. You would not blame someone for being diabetic. No one can blame you for being bulimic.
  • It is not simply about purging. Some bulimics never purge in their lives.
  • It is something that is deeply coded into you – it is part of your nature. There are strong indicators that this is at least in part genetic.  It is not your fault or your choice.
  • There are aspects of the bulimic nature that can be positive. Your nature is one of extremes. You live life to the full. Moderation is not something you are good at. This is true at work and at play. There are some types of work where this nature is a positive attribute when managed correctly.

When you overcome the negative aspects of your bulimic nature (we sometimes describe that as your 'Group B' nature), you can reach into the positive aspects and begin to really understand who you are.

Did you know, people who are bulimic are:

  • Generally in the top 20% of their class in school and university.
  • Very efficient at intense short term tasks (such as working on elections, or short term projects).
  • More knowledgable about general health and nutrition than most of their friends.
  • More committed to a successful outcome in most conflict situations than the average.

Your 'Group B' nature is not a curse. It's just part of who you are. This website is about learning to manage that in a healthy manner, and to turn the negative side of bulimia into a positive one. It is also about your journey back to health. For some that's a journey far easier than they imagined. For others it is harder. It is, however, an adventure that you will have to embark on sooner or later. Now... Put your best foot forward!
